January flowers – small stone 2

Resilient rosebud,
battered by wind and rain,
still standing on an impossibly thin stalk.
Irrepressible –
but definitely not opening up.

There are other flowers in the winter garden which I noticed today. To me they feel more genuine winter flowering plants, with a more honest robustness, properly adapted to the conditions, and able to generously open and give of their colour and scent.

  1. Isn’t Mahonia an absolute joy at this time of the year – and the scent is wonderful too. Thank you for showing us these blossoms – spring is on the way!

  2. These pictures are so lovely and cheer up another dull winter day. and your words, I love the expression ‘still standing,’ I used it in a poem about my poor bedraggled palm tree after a storm here on the seafront. Since then she has been a symbol of resilience for me. And yes, we are both still standing. Lovely to see you Cilla and, Roz. Keep posting your little gems wont you.

  3. It is great to have each other for support when storms batter, so thank you too, Karen and Roz , for your ongoing encouragement šŸ™‚

  4. You’re welcome, it’s nice to be in touch with kindred spirits.
